While temperatures are about to come down, new hairstyles are on the rise thanks to this year's red carpets and runway shows. From middle parts to claw clips, these are the most fun and flattering trends to consider:
The biggest hair color trends of fall 2018 are warm and spicy — just like the PSL. What differentiates trends this fall in hair color is the tone: last year we saw a lot of cool-toned browns and blonds, this year there are more warm colors.
If you're a natural dirty-blonde and your summer color is feeling a little flat, you can add a strawberry-gold highlight for instant warmth. If you're a brunette and craving something fresh, there's a glossy chocolate tone perfect for you. Or, refresh your color with caramel highlights that are the same shade as your coffee after you've added milk into it.
The five hair color trends that are going to be big this fall:
1. STRAWBERRY BLONDE
This is a great option for blondes who went platinum last year and are looking to go back to a warmer shade.
Think: sienna undertones keeping strawberry shades bright, not brassy. Hints of auburn for a warm, autumnal vibe. Rich red hair brightens light eyes and fair skin tones.
Lioness color is super fun this fall! This trend uses a subtle highlight to play up the warmer gold, strawberry blonde, or reddish base.
2. COLD BREW HAIR
Brunette with caramel highlights. This color trend is an easy way to add warmth to brunette hair without completely committing to adding lighter blonde tones to your hair.
Of course, non-brassy, beautiful color is always in style.
3. THE A-LIST BALAYAGE
If you're more low-key and an all over rainbow pastel 'do isn't quite you, then balayage is probably already your go-to for that Jessica Alba caramel blonde. Add an extra level of celeb to the situation with carefully placed shadows and highlights for that 'been on the beach' look where it's brunette towards the top and blonder on the ends. Freshen things by adding darker shades around your face to frame it, and blonder tones in the lengths.
4. YES, ICY WHITE IS IN
Between Cara, Karlie and K-Stew icy white hair is back big time this fall. But if you want to avoid getting a buzz cut, you need to do it right. And if you're not willing to go for the chop, ask your stylist to use Suface Color Additives when they lighten your hair to help keep it in good condition. It's all about your hair history as well: how blonde your hair looks after it's lightened all depends on what you've done to your hair in the past three years. This trend works best when a glaze is applied after lightening to ensure hair health, as well as cleansing & conditioning only with products recommended by your professional stylist.
5. ...BUT YELLOW BLONDE IS BACK
Okay yes, the Cara crew have brought white blonde hair back, but there's an underground blonde trend rebelling against it that is going to be big. Yup, golden blondes are back. It used to be about getting your hair whiter than white because it was so unattainable, but golden shades with warmer tones all over is the new platinum.
Honey blonde is the perfect middle ground for anyone who wants to go warmer with their color.
The spotlight is on shiny, healthy-looking hair this season!
You know when your hair is so straight, so glossy that it shines? Think Bella Hadid, Olivia Culpo and basically all of the Kardashian/Jenner sisters. Well, now there’s a name for that: glass hair, and it’s taking over our feeds.
Ultra-hydrated, clear and glowy, glass hair is all about having that reflective texture — so shiny it’s just like glass. Apart from a healthy hair routine (including deep conditioning treatments, shine treatments and leave-in conditioners), glass hair is pretty simple to re-create: simply straighten with a flat iron and apply Bassu Shine Spray (also adding moisture and color protection) for additional shine, because try as we might it’s hard to get that Kardashian glow without some extra help.
There's no taking sides with this trend. Saoirse Ronan sported a middle part at this year's Oscars, but she's not the only one opting for the simple, sophisticated style. Try using target parting to get it perfectly straight - your stylist is more than happy to give a tutorial!
SMOOTH AND STRAIGHT
Pin-straight and smoothed hair, like Nicole Kidman's at the Oscars, is one of the most prominent trends of the year. Tuck it behind your ears to show off your face and collarbone. For added help to recreate this style, try using the Spanx for hair: Surface Curls Smoothing Cream.
This go-to option for Chrissy Teigen is almost always on-trend, but this fall, it'll be the perfect complement to your red lip and cozy sweater.
While short hairstyles are all over, celebrities are flipping for this 'do. Vanessa Hudgens rocked slightly upturned ends to the premiere of her movie Dog Days. You can copy her look with a round brush and hair dryer. Ask for a modern shag haircut to make the hair cut do most of the work for you.
You don't have to visit the store for this royally-inspired crown hairstyle. Instead, create a textured, romantic braid, like this one from Ess. Here, two different braiding techniques are used that start at the crown and are pinned into place.
Bryce Dallas Howard's fringe is textured and flirty - ever-so-slightly messy bangs look gorgeous when paired with a high ponytail.
The hottest haircut for fall 2018 is... the Windswept! This year's bob is significantly shorter than those of years past. A length between jaw and shoulder is very popular right now. Jenna Dewan is the perfect example of going shorter and shorter with her bob. It looks so chic!
These windswept bobs are everywhere these days. And thanks to Gabrielle Union-Wade, we can understand why. We're expecting many more major chops this fall.
Kate Hudson turned heads with this low maintenance look at the SAG Awards this year. Take your super-short cut up a notch with the right styling product, like Jump Mousse for more volume, or Taffy Spray for added texture and volume.
The dream girl look with healthy ends, straight, shiny hair and a flawless blow-out, seeming to come straight from a TV show starts at the salon. We are so honored and thankful to work with you as we achieve your hair goals together!
Keep It Fresh This Fall!
